Striving for better integration of software tools into the DA-PL/M environment, in co-operation with leading international debugger manufacturers, we have integrated a DAPI (Debugging support Application Programming Interface) into DA-PL/M. By means of this interface, DA-PL/M can exchange messages with debuggers connected to it. The advantages of such a connection are manifest in the fact that it is possible to set or delete break points from within DA-PL/M (in an Editor, Flow Chart, Graph and Browser) as well as execute other debugger operations.
This enhances both DA-PL/M and debugger usability.
You will ultimately want to use your old compiler, linker, make and other tools right out of the new environment, or even to use some Version Control Systems. You can subtly configure all this in DA-PL/M. Again, there is more: all the execution results of external applications can be hyper-linked and used in DA-PL/M, which means that if your long-trusted compiler reports something (although DA-PL/M will often find the error in the source without starting the compiler), you will be able to open any given source file with a single double-click, and even to jump through all the Editor windows in sync with the report.
